NSV...what's your's?

Today for the first time in years I was able to shovel the snow. This may be a bad thing for most but for me its great because for the past several years I couldn't shovel the snow because my dr's were afraid I would have a heart attack. It wasn't so much because I was over weight but my MS was really bad and my BP was very high. Several month ago I was able to go off of my BP meds and then all of my blood work came back normal for cholesterol PLUS my MS has been in remission. I've lost not only weight but I've been able to work out with weights and build my muscles a bit. Don't know if people realize this but illnesses like MS and other autoimmune disease make you very weak and fatigued to the point where no matter how hard you try you can't move much and your muscles atrophy. I no longer have that problem. This morning my husband didn't even argue with me when he saw me shoveling as he was clearing his car to go to work. Normally he yells at me and tells me to let it wait till he gets home or else get our kids to do it for me. Sure feels great to be able to do things again like that. Normally I wouldn't enjoy shoveling the snow but today???? I was all smiles and happy to do it.

So what can you do now that you couldn't do before? I would love to hear stories. Share please. :flowerforyou:

Congratulations on you NSV! What an incredible story! For any of us, with or without, the added challenge of something like MS you are truly an inspiration.

My NSV is not nearly as impressive, but has been very motivating for me. A few years ago my DH and I decided to start kayaking. I was over 200 pounds and 56 years old- definitely out of shape. It was impossible for me to get in or out of the kayak without DH's help. This summer when we kayaked I no longer needed any help. It is incredibly easy now as are so many other daily tasks.

WOW that is awesome!! I don't know that I could get in and out of the kayak no matter how much weight I've lost. I'm scared to death of falling in. Do you get in with your husband or are you in separate kayaks?

Love your dog photo by the way. Is that a golden? He looks like my golden. Best dog ever.

Such great news about both the blood pressure and the MS! My gluten intolerance acted like an autoimmune disease in that I had no energy or strength a lot of the time. It is SO much better since going gluten free and now having lost weight. I just have to get over the mindset that doing things will take too much energy/ be too hard, since now they aren't! Still have to watch not to overdue with my knees thought. Cartilage does not grow back.

We are in separate kayaks. I haven't fallen in yet, but wear a floatation device so am not as worried about it as I was originally. It is a great workout in a very quiet, peaceful setting. We have seen some fantastic scenery and wildlife while kayaking. Would go everyday if I could.

The dog is my goldie, Sargeant Pepper. He is the best dog I have ever owned. So friendly and playful.

these are incredible NSV's aren't they? taking up a sport, getting your muscles back with MS...and even understanding gluten intolerance and using that knowledge to protect yourself from other diseases! Congratulations to you all...

Mine is more of a tiny small gain that only I will ever know...a few weeks ago one of the members laughed about her underwear falling down.....she had smaller pants but had not absorbed the fact that underwear gets too big too! While I was out buying a new formal pair of pants, I saw a pair of my fav cotton underwear, alas two smaller sizes than I was wearing....and they were all on sale! ahh, I had been looking for them everywhere! Should I buy them and hope that one day I would fit into them?

I took a deep breath, bought 5 pair......and then comfortably wore them all last week!

Ok, some changes are visible on the outside, some happen on the inside of your head, and some, like underwear, are our secret NSV's, those small small changes that tell us every single day that we are becoming our better selves!

Best to all, more NSV's to come I hope!

Good for you going gluten free. I tried that for awhile but its very hard to stick with 100%. I try to buy gluten free items whenever possible but its not a medical necessity or me so I'm not strict with it. Do you find it challenging to find gluten free items? Some stores now have an entire section devoted to gluten free. The place I shop doesn't so I have to search. Lots of foods are now labeling that they are gluten free in nice big letters.
