I have been having foot cramps in the sole of my right foot all day. What causes them?

Actual cramps? It could be lots of things, but three that come to mind: dehydration, potassium lacking, or magnesium lacking.

I got them last year, and tried upping water and potassium to no avail. Then I started taking a magnesium supplement and they disappeared with a day.

This is all true. Try eating a banana, drinking more water.
