Has anyone had them design a program for you? I think I'm going to try it out since apparently what I'm doing on my own isn't working so maybe another outlook might help.

strong lifts 5x5 or new rules of lifting. I hear they don't let you do dead lifts at planet fitness though.0

I like the one that they designed for me. I get a good burn and feel like I am getting healthier, but it all determines on what your goals are, sit down and talk to them, if you don't like something discus it and they will change it. The trainer at my pf is very helpful and interactive with everyone when he is not teaching people how to use the machines.0

I did this when i first joined. The trainer who was very nice and knowledgeable set up a plan, and some of it, im still doing. I made some adjustments once I realized how I was most comfortable. I'd say its definitely worth doing, and that you can also use the time to ask a bunch of questions. The more time you spend at the gym and the healthier you get, you'll probably make adjustments as well. Good luck!0

They don't "design" a plan for you. They take a cookie cutter plan with nothing but machines and their circuit, find your high-rep max on all the machines, and call it a personal plan.
You'd be far better off deciding what you want to accomplish and then researching the best way to get there.0 -

Yea I have been doing that for three years with no long term results so I thought some input from a trainer would help. I would hire one but I don't have any income coming in right now.0 -

If this ^^^ is personal experience I feel bad for you.
Mine is nothing like that at all and is very detailed in the approach to fitness. I will assume each PF is different, but mine like the rest has machines, but they also have tons of free weights, and I have already talked to my trainer about goals I want to reach and him helping me with lifting heavy when I decide it is time for me to do that.
Please remember lifting heavy or what you are personally doing is not the only way to get there, so don't bad mouth something if you have not tried it or it just did not work for you.
As far as the OP, I say talk to the trainer discus your goals, and go from there. You might not like what they want you to do and you do something else, but you will not know unless you at least sit down and talk to him/her.0 -
Thanks all, my apt is tomorrow. I'm excited to get a new perspective.0

I say you're not working out hard enough if you're not making a freakin' noise!!!! Don't make the sirens go off. Bloody Hell!
All joking aside. If you can't afford a PT to help you then I think you're doing the right thing for the moment. Getting a plan, even a "cookie cutter" one as someone said above is better than not. So good luck!!!0 -

lol I think I work out too hard on cardio which is part of my problem. I don't really know how to use weights or how to balance weights and cardio so I'm hoping they have some input on that.0 -
I'm curious to see what they provide you.0

also.
pt's in my experience have nothing on S & C coaches.0
