I am wondering who "helloitsdan" is....
Does he own MFP?
Why is his road map the point of reference for every query here?
Is his info reliable?

The calorie calculator is from the fat2fitradio website - it is a solid calculator as it basically uses the same formula as the others you find on the interwebz.

I was a staunch 1200cal follower and wasted a YEAR faffing around at the same weight. You only have to look at how many re-posts Dans road map gets to see the info is reliable :flowerforyou:

I recommend the thread to people because it's an extremely useful and helpful thread that details how to lose fat the healthy and sustainable way. There is a huge amount of misinformation out there, some of it dangerously misleading, and a lot of people don't understand enough about nutrition and physiology to know what books, blogs, etc are based in science, and which are pseudoscientific drivel designed to sell books more than to help people.

Dan's thread is not the only good source of fat loss information on the internet, there are books out there that will actually teach you the science of how to lose fat without damaging your health in the process, but I'd rather recommend a free resource from another member of this website than direct people to books they'd have to pay for (plus it's against forum rules to promote other people's products). Dan's not the only one, there are a few other people on here who really get the science behind fat loss and are happy to share what they know, totally for free. Honestly, Dan could charge people for that information and make a lot of money, but he'd rather share it for free.

Additionally, Dan's thread breaks it down into simple steps that are straight forward to follow, so it's not just a scientific explanation, but a road map too. It does what it says in the title. So if someone asks for help on the forum regarding how many calories they should be eating, I'll recommend his thread to them.

Don't take my word for it, study nutrition and physiology yourself from peer reviewed journals and other academic sources. Science is science, it doesn't depend on who's saying it or what qualifications they have, but the fact that it's backed up by how the body actually works and real world results. However beware of the fact that probably 95% of the information out there on fat loss is pseudoscience.

ETA: I don't know who Dan is either. All of what I'm saying is based solely on the fact that I read the thread and could see it was good, sound, reliable information and written in a way to enable people to apply it to their lives to lose fat.

Dan is a very nice man who out of the goodness of his heart helps people learn the right way to get fit and lose weight. He himself says he's no expert but he's very well read and the scores of people who have followed his advice and succeeded is proof enough.

    I like Dan... a lot!

    Faster than a speeding bullet.
    More powerful than a locomotive.
Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.

    Look! Up in the sky!
    It's a bird. It's a plane. It's SuperDan!

Yes, it's SuperDan - strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. SuperDan - who can change the course of mighty rivers of fat, bend scales with his bare hands, and who, disguised as helloitsdan, mild mannered poster for the great MFP, fights the never ending battle for Health, Fat Loss and the American Weigh.

I follow the bits of the roadmap that I want, I do things my way in other areas, and at the end of the day I'm half way to my goal.
Dan could be the man in the moon for all I care - but the roadmap helped me understand this lifestyle change a little better and it works (for me, anyway)...
I accept it may not be for everyone though.

Do your own research, futz about with your numbers. log with MFP how you want... simples!

It's dan for short. I think fast so in my head it's "hello stan" hahah....
    he's a member of MFP
Because the road map points out the obvious in one place
I followed my own thing, but his method should work for the average person big or small for weight loss. It's based on existing science and math.
He's pretty up on Science, I enjoy him for that reason.

No... the owners and even moderators on MFP don't really participate or interact that much on the forums, other than to close topics. :indifferent:

Dan's okay, he tries to help others but sometimes shoves his belief a bit too much.
