Inconsistent body measurements - how to improve?

Hi everyone, this is my first post!

Every time I have tried to track body measurements in the past, they have come out wildly different each week.

I used to do waist, right thigh, chest, right arm and bum. However I'd always come up with 1-2 centimeters of difference (more AND less) each week. Obviously I'm not very good at hitting the same part of the limb each time!

Do you guys have any tips or tricks to getting your tape measurements consistent? I'd really like to keep a track of these asap, as I think it shows the most difference over time.
