What's the consensus on Splenda?

Yay or nay? I have a friend who has been getting on me because I use a couple packets of Splenda a couple times a day in my coffee. I don't drink diet soda or much of anything else that contains artificial sweeteners. She has been posting all these articles on Facebook and normally I ignore them but a couple of them caught my eye and I read them. I always feel like they are so biased and are written to sway you one way or another, I guess that's the sign of an effective writer. I however don't feel like my few packets of Splenda a day is having any negative impact on me. Maybe I am overlooking something. Should I reconsider or am I ok?

Splenda is sugar that has been bound to another molecule so that your body does not break it down to digest it; it just passes straight through! I am taking a nutrition class for nursing right now, and the consensus is that it is okay in the amount a normal person would consume. It would take many, many, many, times the normal consumption to possibly cause any harm.

I use Splenda and Stevia all the time and I say yay!

I would think stevia is much more healthy than splenda though....right?

I am not sure. That's what I was asking. Just looking for other people's thoughts on the subject,

You're fine. Afew packeys of Splenda a day isn't doing you physical harm.

I think I know the "article" you mean, here's the snopes article that goes with it.

A moderate amount of artificial sweetener is not going to harm you unless you are sensitive to it. People with PKU have to avoid it, but for the vast majority of people it's fine.

Healthier? Probably, but I hate that after taste. I can drink zevia which is diet soda sweetened with stevia but I could never put it in coffee or dip strawberries in it

My primary care dr thinks artificial sweeteners "confuses" your body and may actually interfere with weight loss, I will stick with stevia because my pounds are soooo stubborn in getting off getting better results since I stopped diet soda and artificial sweetener in my coffee.....
Totally agree though about the after taste, prefer sugar any day but am trying this now.

Each packet of Splenda has four calories in it. That amount can add up if you use multiple packets or bake with it.

    I prefer Truvia.

I like Brown Sugar Splenda. I use it to make sauces and it's great.
