Door to Door Organics

I was just curious if anyone has used this organic produce delivery service? It's one of two companies that deliver to my area. The other being fruit guys. I'm interested in the delivery, it just seems cheaper to feed my family of 5 this way than to buy from a store. Where I live organic is very expensive and the selection isn't the greatest. Any pros or cons on the company or just produce delivery in general would be great. Thanks

Yes, Bennett and I use a company called Terra Organics and we love it. We get weekly delivery and it has really broadened our horizons on different fruits and vegetables to try. I love it because it's is local, sustainable and organic. I think you should give it a go.0

I debated between door-to-door organics and another service in my area. I decided to go with the other service, I think because they seemed a little more flexible in customizing the produce boxes.
I've been very happy getting it delivered. The produce is great, service is great, and I get my deliveries on Fridays so I'm stocked for the weekend cooking.
Since I don't eat processed food, it's been very helpful to know I have a stocked fridge of veggies each week. I also find I spend less now because I make far fewer trips to the supermarket and that means less impulse buys too. I can do about 80% of my shoppong through the service.
I will probably stop for the summer and fall to do local farm CSA, but it's great in the winter and spring.0 -
Thanks Cari and Andrea. I will definitely give it a try. Another question. I have a family of 5 and my daughters and I eat A LOT of produce, my husband doesn't eat much. What size box would you suggest for a fruit and veggie loving family of 5?0

I'd say start with the medium box for a few weeks and see how it lasts. You can always change the size. I change mine all the time, depending on what I've still got left or not. Of course, if you do juicing or lots of smoothies, you might want a bigger box.
I try to buy enough veg so I can make something every night for dinner (or 2 nights if leftovers or something that kids won't eat). Plus, some staples for lunches. My goal is to eat 1-2 cups of veg with every meal, but I don't often get that in.
My original plan was to get an eMeals weekly plan delivered on Wednesdays, then match my delivery service order to that on Fridays. I did it one week and it worked really well. Then I got lazy. I've been saving up my eMeals plans to use when I try to get organized again. Now I just wing it, but I find that as long as there are some veggies in the bin and some meat in my defrost bowl, I can put something on the table relatively quickly.
Each week I always get:
- carrots, peppers, and cucumbers for packed lunches for kids and me
- a bunch of kale, spinach, or chard. We make kale chips about once a week.
- cauliflower and zucchini (my "rice" and "pasta" substitutes). I try to keep one or the other in the fridge at all times.
- mushrooms
- onions, garlic, and sometimes shallots or leeks
- avocados and tomatoes
That often takes up most of my box, but sometimes I add in extra sweet potatoes, parsnips, or rutabagas.
My kids go through A LOT of apples, so I generally buy them from the market and pick whatever is organic and cheapest. We eat a lot of berries too, but often my service doesn't have the berries.
You'll enjoy the service. Not sure about D2D, but my service (Mile High Organics) has incredible customer service. If something I ordered isn't in stock when they pack the box, they call to see if I want to sub something else in. Or, they sub with something similar and sometimes throw something extra in. I love them.
Good luck.0
