Okay so basically.. ive always been obese for a number of reasons.. not really what im looking to discuss with this post.
Eitherway... because of this, i am truely ignorant about a "normal" size... i always thought that a weight of 50 kg ish for a girl my age (120lbs for those americans playing at home) and to find out that girls actually do weigh that.

Im 5'6' and I always thought I was large boned... for example... im down to 110kg (240lbs) and already have quite prominent collar bones.. and I have no idea where to set my goal weight.

What I originally thought would be realistic is still considered obese by BMI and whilst im not a huge believer in BMI I still would like to be somewhat healthy so that doctors stop blaming obesity on every ailment I have...

So.. what does everyone my height believe an average normal weight for my height to be?

  • I am also 5'6" I have an hourglass shape and I have been as low as 127 and looked skeletonish, but I look best at a toned 135-140 and that puts me at a size 4. It is my goal to be there by June 30th of this year. I only have 37 pounds to go.

When I set out to lose weight, I didn't have a final goal weight in mind. I set a short term goal and reevaluated when I achieved it. I didn't have as much to lose, but my first goal was to get from my starting weight (162lbs) to 150. I did it, then decided to go for 145, then 140, etc. Each time I reached a goal I was able to celebrate another accomplishment, which helped keep me going, and I refocused on what goals I wanted to achieve next - a new weight goal, build muscle, lower body fat percentage or whatever.

Right now, my goal weight is 135 (I'm 135.2 as of this morning!) - I never would have guessed that I could to this weight when I first started out! But my focus is less on the weight goal now as much as continuing to lower the body fat percentage while preserving and building more muscle.
  • Set your goal for a body fat percentage instead of a weight

I'm a similar height as you. My personal highest was 109 kg (BMI = 38, if I recall). I never knew until I lost weight that I actually was large-framed. My lowest since adulthood was 63 kg (BMI = 23). My doctor(s) stopped blaming all my problems on my weight when I got down to about 79 kg (BMI = 29 or so).

I'm 5'4 and currently 62 kilo. An Aussie size 10, UK 8 to 10. I am focusing on body fat but if I would have to guess my goal weight I would say 58 kilos. No way in the world could I be 50kg. I would be a skeleton. If you aim to lose ten kilos at a time you can re-evaluate where you want to be.

Also, you can have a wide frame but not 'big bones' so don't rely on them to excuse any weight. The best way to know where you need to be is body fat. I think if you measured that and water weight you may be surprised.

I'm 5'7'' and weigh 78kg right now I'm shooting for 68kg (172 to 150 for those using the imperial system). I have a "large" frame which just means (to me) that I should shoot for the top 1/3 of my 'healthy weight range.' Back in the day, I weighed 155/70kg (still within my healthy weight range) but I think I had a lot more lean muscle then. I sure used to work out a lot more than I do now (bit of a gym rat and used to run a 5k daily).

At 150, I should be sitting right at 20% BF (based on my current lean body mass) which would be perfect for me. Of course, I'll have to see as I get closer (really after the next stone I should know pretty well where I'm going).
