Eating out Mexican restaurant

I have been dieting for about five weeks, lost 20 pounds with a long way to go. I have to go to a family dinner this week at a Mexican restaurant, any low cal ideas?

    Shrimp cocktail!! Super low calorie if you like seafood. If you eat meat maybe try the albondigas (meatball) with a side salad.

    I would spend less cals on the rest of your meals for the day so you can splurge more at dinner!

    But chicken fajitas with corn tortillas are usually a pretty safe bet. Or a chicken salad..

    I agree w/ anyone who said fajitas. Shrimp tacos would also be good, as long as the tortilla isn't fried in oil. Skip or skimp on the sour cream, cheese and guac, and order black beans instead on refried.

    It's one meal on one day. Eat whatever the hell you want. You're on calorie restriction, not calorie purgatory. None of us got fat from one meal with friends and family.

    If you had 3 lbs to go I'd tell you to tighten it up. But a long way out from goal you have to learn to relax some of the time. Being to strict all the time leads to burnout and falling off altogether

    Thanks all! I have a splurge day already planned next week, so wanted to be good for this. I'm sad about the margarita, but will probably wither go with the fajitas or taco salad no shell.

    get anything that has the tortillas on the side, then you can choose how many you want.

    or do what i do and get the chimichanga, which is a deep fried burrito, probably the worst thing :D

    just kidding it depends some mexican places have "lite" entrees. el torito is one and they even have skinny margaritas.

    i went to a carne asada fundraiser and figured out i could "afford" three carne asada tacos with no rice or beans just tomatillo sauce and lime squeeze on corn tortillas for under 500 cals. of course when I went i had a beer first one in my life and went completely nuts bonkers over my cals. but that's just me. dont drink and it's easier to stay on track. Or drink only. whatever suits your mood.:drinker:

    I'd eat light throughout the day and then order what I want but only eat 1/2 of it.

    We're going to our favorite Mexican .place on Friday for valentine's day. My favorite dish is fajitas covered in queso with a chili rilenno on the side. *sigh*

    Would also love a frozen strawberry margarita. What to do, what to do.
