I am wanting to loose about 40 lbs and tone up. I have my weight lifting routine set but I am stuck on what to do for cardio! I am just starting out so I can't jump into a 3 mile run. I have been running 1 mile on the treadmil but it gets so boring doing the same thing. The gym also has an ellpitical. Does anyone have some great ideas for spicing up my treadmil workout?

I did the Couch to 5K podcasts by Robert Ullrey to build my running endurance. It took me a long time to complete the program (it's supposed to be 9 weeks, but I ended up taking nearly 2 years thanks to stopping and starting for various reasons). When I started, I could barely run a mile at a slow pace. I think that the run-walk intervals in the program really helped because they gave me a serious sense of accomplishment. The interval game for me made it more interesting. Good luck!

    Intervals.

Go for a minute as fast as you can, then either walk, or jog for a minute, then sprint, again. Do this for 20 minutes.

Intervals also work well on the elliptical. Most are already pre-programmed with an interval function on the machine.

Go on youtube and search "home cardio routine. You'll find all kinds of very challenging cardio routines. You can alternate things like pushups, dips, burpees. There are a lot 10-20 routines that focus on different things so you could mix and match depending on how much time you want to spend each day. You could even pick 3-6 different moves you like and go for a minute as hard as you can on each one with 30 seconds rest in between. Basically build your own HIIT routine. It'll help you build endurance, strength and kick up your metabolism.

I'm a runner but I hate treadmills! They are boring. But, they also have a lot of treadmill routines on youtube. Good luck
