Agave Nectar

Hello!

I am after some advice on Agave nectar. I have started to use it in replacement for regular granulated white sugar in hot drinks. I cannot drink tea without something a bit sweet in it.

I do not like honey.

So for someone who consumes maybe 4 to 5 hot drinks a day is it really better for me to use Agave nectar? From a natural/blood sugar levels/calorie counting/overall better health point of view.

P.S - if I were using normal sugar I would have one level teaspoon per cup, if I use the Agave I have about half a teaspoon.

Essentially agave nectar is just another sugar. White sugar is a granulated form of syrup from a plant (typically either beets or sugar cane). Agave nectar is a just syrup from a different plant. From what I've read, it has more calories than sugar, but is sweeter, so theoretically you would use less of it. The other big difference is it's affect on the body's blood/glucose levels. It would seem that it's biggest benefit would be for diabetics, but I can't imagine that it would make all that much difference for weight loss, unless you just consume ridiculous amounts of white sugar.

It's 70 to 90% fructose and why it doesn't effect blood sugar. It tastes like crap and if I'm going to sweeten something I'll use sucrose over agave, jmo.
