Carbs? GI? Or just calories?

So I know this has been debated countless times and no one has really been able to come to a final conclusion and every camp has their own success stories etc...

I'm just curious as to people who go low-carb, low-GI etc... Does it really matter? Or is it just calories? Is too much fruit bad because of sugar and carbs?
