Strength Training: Multiple Sets vs Single Set

I currently do 4 strength training days a week: two upper, two lower. I do three supersets of exercises to target each major muscle group, and do 12 reps per exercise.
I'm looking for ways to shorten my exercise time, so was thinking about changing to just one superset of the exercises and doing more reps per exercise. Is one method better than the other?

Up your weight so that 5 reps is near failure, then do 3 to 5 sets.0
