Calculating swim calories

Does anyone know how myfitnesspal calculates the calories when I swim? Does it do a proper calculation? I think my average based on my weight should be 7.36 and I multiply that by the minutes I swam a moderate freestyle. ????

    MFP does not use your weight. If you have a system that takes into account you weight and your intensity, that would probably be best.

    Unfortunately, in this case you can't use a HRM!
