About to buy a squat cage

Drool.
I've got an open squat cage/suspension trainer combo that works OK. But I would trade it in a second for this one.
My gym has one like that (not sure if it's the exact same one but it looks similar). My biggest problem with it is that the lowest pin is still too high for me to do rack pulls.
Same issue. Mine's kind of flimsy for a gym, so I doubt it's the same type.
It's fine up to 300 lbs, but I really want to get (or build) something better.0 -
Nice cage. I wish I had the space / money for one. Congrats to you on what looks like a great purchase. :flowerforyou:0

3) because of the design, bench can't go back far enough to use rear uprights for benching. Again, not sure how big of a deal this is.
I agree that does seem like kind of a big deal. Maybe a different bench would work better? I don't have a spotter so being able to bench press in the cage is very important- if I go to failure I can pull the bar back off my chest and it catches on the rails over my neck so I can get out from under it.
Maybe... I'll look more closely at the legs/supports on different benches and see if there is much difference there.0 -
Just following up to see if you are still planning on buying this cage. I'm in the market myself but feeling a bit torn on what I want. I'm either going to get a used cage as soon as one pops up locally here, or buy something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Body-Solid-Multi-Press-Rack-GPR370/dp/B0013ZCDMY/ref=sr_1_28?ie=UTF8&qid=1360945985&sr=8-28&keywords=squat+rack
I like the fact that it's a gunrack so you don't have to reposition the pegs to support weight at different heights.
Any opinions on a rack like this vs a cage?0 -

I'd take the cage. More versatile in the long run. It's not that big a deal to change the pegs around. 30 seconds. Takes more time to strip the plates off to go from squats to bench etc.
I used to have a rack similar to that, but it wasn't the gun rack style, it had pinlock type hooks, but the safety catches were the same. It worked ok but I felt a lot safer especially when benching when I got the full cage.0 -
I got mine on Craigslist.. including an incline/decline bench, 400lbs of Oly weights, and it has all the bells and whistles.. for $400. Check AROUND!!!! They also delivered it- but I think that was just the Southern gentlemanly behavior.0

These seem like a lot of money for the materials involved....
Couldn't you get a fabricator to knock you something up out of old scaffolding rods, say for a fraction of the price?
It actually shouldn't be to hard to make your own if you have a halfway decent welder.
I actually saw on here someone had made a wooden one looked pretty awesome - you could use threaded rod cut to the right length through all your joints for stability...0 -
Since You are from Vestal, you are probably talking about D*I*C*K's. Which is way over priced. I would checkout Craigs List, I built my gym and filled my entire basement with everything I could possibly need for about $600.00. You would be shocked about what people buy just to let it end up collecting dust for a year or two and then sell it for next to nothing when they get tired of it taking up space.0

This is very similar to what I already have and it's pretty effective if you don't need/want a full cage.0 -

Yea, I'd love to find something used (most of my gear has been used), but I'm in a fairly small town/market, and decent gear is few and far between. Lots of cheap benches, plastic "plates" and such, but nothing like what I'm looking for. I do look once a week or so just in case though.0 -

No, I'm not talking about ****s. Again, good used stuff never shows up around here. I'm hoping to get my plates used, but I've never seen a full cage on craigslist.0 -
We've got a craigslist alternative in this area which is great and where I am looking, but the problem is there are a few people who buy and sell this stuff in my area as a job, ha. They watch it like hawks. Good deals literally get sold in 10 minutes. Hopefully I'll beat them to one or at least get a good deal from them after they pick one up. Buying from them is still less expensive than retail.0

I'm looking at getting this rack, there's a few different ones on ebay (uk) currently.
