Trying to set up my pacing. I do a lot better with everything when I have goals to shoot for!!!

    With the first marathon, the goal is to finish, period. Finishing strong is a bonus. Finishing with a respectable time is out of this world fantastic!

    I never set a time goal for my first marathon. I advise against it. My first marathon goal was to finish without injury. My marathon times vary quite a bit. If I am running them "just for fun", my times vary between 4:00-4:45. If I taper and "race" them, my times are sub-4. I've been marathoning for 6 years, so keep in mind that my soft tissues and bones are adapted. I would not suggest multiple marathoning until you've been running them for at least two years.

    Thanks Jessica! Yeah - this one will for sure be my "for fun run" but I know I need to have a consistent pace through the whole thing because of my knees and hips. You wouldn't even suggest multiple half marathoning?? I don't feel like those are really "marathons" just because they're like my training runs - is it weird to think like that??

    By the way...

    I set my mp3 player for four pieces from the podrunner website for my marathon.

    The first was 165 bpm, the second was 170, the third was 175 and the last was 180. It worked, I ran several negative splits and was able to be consistent all the way to the end. If you want to see, I'll message you my info so you can see my chip times.

    One other thing-consider gallo-walking. If you walk through the water stations (and believe me-you won't be the only one!), you can get that water in without spilling half of it, and your legs get a five to ten second break before the next mile or two. It helped me.
