Asperagus... how much do you trim them?

Options
Just wondering if there is a rule of thumb here... last time I made them the ends were quite tough... thinking I didn't trim them high enough ;)

The best way to gauge is to grab the asparagus by each end and bend it. Where it breaks is where you should trim it to.

don't trim - snap! Hold it so one hand is around the middle and other other at the tough end, and bend until it snaps :)

The snapping thing never works for me. Usually you can just look at it and tell where it's starting to get woody. The bunch I cooked with last night barely needed to be trimmed at all.

Snap them. Where it naturally snaps is right for each piece. Works a treat!
