I'm looking for the best one to use.

I found this :
http://www.amazon.com/Omron-HBF-306C-Loss-Monitor-Black/dp/B000FYZMYK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1360613846&sr=8-1&keywords=BODY+MASS+INDEX

But I'm wondering if there's something better

  • I use that monitor, and it is good. Pay attention to body fat not BMI. (this monitor will tell you, both however, you don't need a monitor to calculate your BMI )

Be aware this monitor is affected by your hydration and sodium levels, you really need to measure consistently, put in an accurate weight, and average measurements over a minimum of a week to get an accurate picture of your body fat percentage

How exactly does it work? Does it asks for measurements and I type it on and it calculates it?
maybe a combination of my strength, measurements and my weight and all that?
  • You have to enter in your current age, height, weight. then you hit start and hang on to the handles. It passes an electrical signal from one hand through your body to the other hand. It measures how long it takes to reach the other hand.

Muscle conducts electricity better than fat, so based on this it can estimate your body composition ie percent body fat.

BMI is a simple calculation based on your height / weight /sex http://bmicalc.org/bmi-calculator-for-women

If someone comes back and says muscle and fat conduct electricity the same because 1 lb of muscle = 1 lb of fat I'm going to put a gun to my head!

Unfortunately, since current travels the path with least resistance, in this case the shortest from hand to hand, you are measuring (poorly) the BF% of your arms and chest. No trunk, no *kitten*, no legs...

    What do you suggest then?

I'm just saying not to expect them to be too accurate. I have one in my scale. Calipers read differently.
If you really need an accurate measurement, schedule a DEXA scan.

Well i'd like to measure the whole body without going for a DEXA scan. Somehow using my measurements, weight, and height and calculating BMI

    Try these calculators:

Not sure how accurate they are, but it's a start.
