How To Switch Up My Exercise

I'm trying to find new exercises I can do at the gym. I don't want my body to get used to the same old thing. My asthma goes crazy when I try to run, so I've been just using the elliptical for a half hour Is there anything else I can do to switch it up? I've tried using the bike every once in a while, but I feel like I'm not getting as much out of it as I would the elliptical. Although I know floor exercises (like sit ups) are good for you, I tend to not give them my all, since there's nothing regulating them, like you would get with a machine. Do step machines work well? They kind of seem strange to use.

Maybe try walking fast at max incline on the treadmill... i "feel it" much more than elliptical and running. I got too bored just doing the elliptical after a while so i did this until my stamina was improved enough to start running. Good luck

Try doing intervals on different machines. If you're doing 45 minutes on the elliptical, try 15 on the elliptical, 15 on the stationary bike, 10 minutes lifting weights and finish off on the treadmill--time yourself and keep yourself at a moderately fast pace. At least then you're challenging yourself and switching things up!

Does your gym offer cardio classes? I know last January when I got the courage to go to a cardio class, that changed my workouts ENTIRELY! It has done wonders for my metabolism, weight loss, and self image. I highly recommend a class-like setting if you're able to, I have met so many people, and made great friends. I was really intimidated at first, because it was an hour long class of cardio, and I was like "whoa, that's a LONG time!" but 1)it's not boring like an elliptical, the hour FLIES by... 2)the intensity is what you make it, push yourself as hard as you can/want 3)having an instructor to push you to keep going makes a heck of a difference!

I know that going to the classes really helped me get to where I wanted to be, I still go in and do cardio on the elliptical and treadmill, but I am also now much more comfortable using free weights than I was before... good luck, hope you find something new and exciting for you!

For cardio, try the rowing machine or a class. Spinning can be really intense, and there's fun stuff like Hip Hop. Also, hit the free weights for sure.
