Should I log calories burned at work?

I work in fast food part-time (2 shifts per week, 8 hours each and only sit for 15 mins. during the shift for a break. Otherwise I'm on my feet moving quickly) - and one of the days I unload 80lb boxes off of a truck and put it them away around the store, for about an hour. The rest of the week I attend school, and am sitting most of the day in class or studying. Ususally I do some form of workout 5-6 days a week (I workout on the days I work, too). So should I log the days I work (I mean, sometimes I break a sweat, especially during truck) or is that included in my "lightly" or "moderately" active setting?

I'm just confused because it's only 2 days a week that I burn all of those additional calories...

Thanks,

Dancerbean :)

I wouldn't worry about extra for the days you work. Just the act of standing isn't necessarily burning extra calories. Unless you see that weight is falling off of you at an alarming rate, I'd call it a bonus to counter balance the days you sit in school.
  • i would it will help your calorie goal at the end of the week

Just my opinion, but you should definitely be "counting" or at least "monitoring" that extra activity. Recomend you wear a pedometer - the fancy ones these days will accurately count your steps, your up and down movements, your calories burned, how far you've walked in mileage and your sleep patterns. I have a Fitbit and I LOVE IT. (You can compare devices online, or check them out at Best Buy or some other type athletic store). You can sync it up to your Myfitnesspal account and (your choice) use those extra burned calories to eat a little more on those active days...or just bank them and keep on losing weight in a healthy manner. Hope that helps.

    Hi,
Im in a similar situation, I'm a nurse and work two shifts a week. I've been using a pedometer and on those day I can burn 800-1200 additional calories a shift. I personally do track mine but only eat back half the calories for that day, otherwise I find I'm craving junk by the end of my shift. Also I'm a mum on the other days so can also be very active or very still. Rather than change my whole week up I've set my goals to lightly active and then allow for adjustment.
I personally eat back my planned exercise calories but I will only tap into my 'movement calories' on work or overly busy days do you find that your more prone to over-eating on work days? If so might be worthwhile thinkings about.
Also depends on your weight loss too. For me having the additional works well but I've had to work out what works best for me as I was really struggling to keep within limits.
    Hope this helps

change your activity level to Active, and don't count them as extra,
