And this is why I love my food scale

Baked potato with dinner- weight prior to eating, 323 grams (it was a biggie). After I was done eating, I weighed what was left- 178 grams. I ate only 145 grams of my baked potato. Before I got my food scale, I would have put in the largest size potato I could find and that would be it.
Seriously, for those of you who don't have a digital food scale....what are you waiting for?

Yes! I just got one last week and it's the best.
I found out that counting chips and weighing them are very different beasts.. The serving could say 28 grams or 12 chips, but I weigh it and it's more like 9 chips for 28 grams. . Those kinds of things can sneak up on you and you not even know it! I also LOVE weighing my veggies (mushrooms, mostly) to get an accurate reading and idea of what kind of bang for my buck I'm going to get when I eat something.0 -
I totally agree I've had mine for a week now. Best investment ever. Like you I would just eat a whole potato or a heaping spoonful of peanut butter only to realize it was more than one tablespoon!0

I agree. If mine broke I'd be out the door 5 minutes later looking to buy another one.0

I went to Target for the basic digi scale for 19.00 I noticed a nicer one for 44.00 that went in more depth about the calories etc. it even had the square box for things to watch out for that is like what is on our food boxes.
I decided to wait until I decided if that would be a better one to get.0 -
Happy to know I'm not alone loving my food scale haha! I use it all the time, like someone else said it is pretty useful for veggies and fruits!0

I have one that also measures liquids.
Awesome tool0 -

Best way to weigh peanut butter is to tare the scale first with the jar on the scale. Scoop out your peanut butter and the negative reading in grams is the amount of peanut butter you removed from the jar including what's on the spoon or knife.0 -

Buy the cheaper one. That's all you need with MFP. I lost all my weight using a $20 Amazon-purchased one. Don't waste your money - and you could be accurate now.0 -

I am in love with mine. I was about to buy a digital one, had an old analog one that broke and a co-worker gave me her Biggest Loser one instead. Let me tell you its a life saver.
By guess-timating my foods I was way over on some, and way under on others. It is so neat to have. I weigh just about everything.
The only thing I wish was that I had a mini one about purse size so I can carry it with me when I go out to eat, those are the really tricky situations.0 -

You don't know how many times I've seriously considered bringing mine when we go out to eat! :laugh:0 -

Love this tip--thank you thank you! I too am always washing the PB off the tablespoon--not any more!:)0 -
Figuring peanut butter was always a problem. When I finally got a scale and began to weigh it, I was stunned to see that I'd been consuming about twice what a serving was! Plus the issue with washing the tablespoon measure, right? Although I now have a pretty good weighing procedure, I really like the idea of taring the whole jar, then using the negative as a measure. I'm going to try that tomorrow. I get great ideas from the MFP community!0

Asian pear..I consider it a small/Medium size yet according to my scale it is equal to 2 1/2 -3 Asian Pears. I found this with most of the fruit etc.0

I use a baking measuring spoon for my peanut butter. Is this not what they mean by a "tablespoon"?0
