I have fibro and I do best with walking and yoga.

I find that if I don't exercise regularly I get really sore and tired. I've never had an exercise I couldn't do and have always just jumped in to the classes and did the best I could. I think strength training makes me feel best though.

Sorry, to clarify I go to the gym 5 days a week right now and feel better than I have in years.

My doctor had me start off with walking and then pilates. I just started weight lifting and I think it's helping also. You should ask your rheumatologist what the best plan for you is though. This afternoon I was reading on PubMed about what type of exercise is best for fibro and the consensus seemed to be that it's an individual thing based on preferences and limitations. Here's the link if you're interested.

I'm newly diagnosed too. I bought a recumbent bike. Also use free weights to strengthen my back. So far so good. Meds are working well, and no flare ups from exercising.

Edit: I tried walking, but it killed me. Everything hurt afterwards. With the recumbent bike, there's back support, and easier on the knees. Stretching and yoga are good too.
