Carb, protein, fat %'s....???

How important is it to stick to certain %'s each day? Is it more important to stay within your caloric goals? Does it depend on your activity level is or if you are trying to lose weight vs. maitain? What percentage is best for someone that is moderately active looking to lose weight? Sorry...lots of questions....

  • I am only concerned with protein and staying under my daily goal. I try to eat nutritionally dense food, it's not all big macs and protein shakes but I don't worry too much about my carb or fat intake.

I try to stay near my custom macros of 45% Fat / 25% Protein / 30% Carbs.

But if I don't, it seems to all work out the next day. Not a biggie.

First, work out your fat and protein minimum.

0.8-1g Protein per lb of bodyweight (or Lean Body mass, if you know it)
0.5g Fat per lb of bodyweight (or Lean Body mass, if you know it)

Then work out your calorie goal, whatever that may be. Fill the remainder of calories you have leftover with whatever you like - preferably carbs, but can be fat or protein. Whatever you like.

Long story short: percentages are pointless.

40% Fat, 30% Carbs, 30% Protien... I especially watch my carbs and sugar. Carbs and sugar lead to glucose/insulin spikes-- which I try to avoid.
