Wearing a HRM during Yoga?

Hey!
I'm going to start doing some Yoga shortly and I was wondering if I should wear my HRM (Polar FT4 w/ chest strap) while I do it. I heard that you should only wear it during aerobic/ cardio based exercise.
THANKS!

Depends on what type of yoga you are doing. Most you won't need it since yoga is about relaxing and controlling your body, so your heart rate shouldn't be jumping around like crazy for you to need to monitor it. If you want to wear it once to figure out how many calories you burn in a certain period of time in order to use that as your gauge for the future when you do yoga and need to enter it in your calorie count, then that would be fine.0

I used it for pilates. it said abotu 130calories for the hour??? I burnt more wading through a toddler pool and sitting on my *kitten* for an hour. I think its like strength training and doesn't provide a true indication. Personal opinion only, as i really have NFI0

I wear my FT7 during hatha yoga, just to get a gist of how many calories I am burning. Your heart rate shouldn't be too high - but most certainly useful for calories!0

Heat is one of the things that will cause inaccurate readings as it can cause an elevated heart rate. HRMs assume that elevated heart rate is in relation to cardio and estimate calories based on that formula. The elevated heart rate due to heat or other factors doesn't have a relationship with calories burned. The readings will be inflated.
HRMs are also not accurate for low intensity exercise. So it would depend on the type of yoga but for the most part, no.
