Eating at a restaurant

I went to an Italian restaurant to find that the menu doesn't include calorie intake per meal.
I managed to count but never was certain how many calories I actually took in.

How do you do when in a restaurant and the menu doesn't inform you of calories for each meal?

  • I usually check their menu on line before I go and I decide what I am getting before I even get to the restaurant. A lot of chain restaurants post their nutritional information. If the nutritional information is not on line, I at least I can carefully make a better choice from their menu before I go, than when I am sitting at the restaurant. You can also try to find a similar dish from a similar type of restaurant that posts its calories and use that information. I just feel better making my menu choice from home, then I don't make any last minute dumb decisions.

look up the calories for a similar meal and add an extra 100-200 cals! better safe than sorry!
  • At an italian restaurant, I usually ask for a chicken dish over broccoli instead of pasta. Go for a red sauce instead of a creamy or butter sauce if possible. Fish and seafood are good options too. Resist the bread!! Then I usually go to the logger and estimate as best I can, add 100-200 cals for oil and butter. :)

ps didn't realize you already went; in that case find a similar restaurant meal and move on to the new day. ^_^
