Swimming for exercise?

I used to swim competitively in middle school and high school for a total of 8 years. I absolutely love the water and I was thinking about starting to swim again for exercise since I can't run to save my life and I have a tendency of not pushing myself when I work out. I was reading an article saying that your better off walking laps around the pool rather than swimming laps in the pool. Is it going to be worth it to invest in a suit and goggles or should I find something else?

If you like to do an exercise, it's well worth doing it. If you are worried about building bone strength mix it up with some weight bearing exercise and work with weights.0

swimming laps is great exercise! I'm sure that article said to walk laps around the pool instead of swimming them was referring to needing impact to help with bone strength. If you are just adding swimming instead of only swimming go for it! I loved swimming laps but sadly I had to join a different gym instead of the YMCA due to cost/distance issues. I was so excited about my cute suits and goggles. Maybe this summer I'll join a pool and swim laps there while my son plays.0
