How do you deal with this

So, I started my weight loss journey in July. Since then, I haven't really been in contact with a lot of people from my son's middle school. Two weeks ago, I attended a teacher appreciation dinner there. Not many people talked to me there which I found a little strange. It turns out, at least 4 other parents had asked the principle if I was sick, or how much time I had left. The principle then asked my wife if therewas anything the school (small Catholic school) could do for us... I initially got a laugh out of this, but the more I thought of it, the more insulted I got. Is it so unbelievable that a person can choose to make a lifestyle change, that we need to assume a worst possible scenario (death)... Dammit, I worked hard to get where I am. So I didn't announce to the world I wanted to lose weight, it was a personal journey that I did for myself and my family. Am I being overly sensitive?

My opinion is: 91 pounds is a major weight loss, I think that if you had attended the function having lost only about 30/40 pounds people would have thought it was merely weight loss and not a sickness - a lot of diseases are connected to "major" weight loss and it's human nature for people to automatically think that negative than the positive of losing weight. I know with many obese women, others tend to think they are pregnant automatically, than to think they are just simply obese, so you are not entirely alone in being judged in the wrong manner.

Sorry you got the reaction that you did, but many kudos to you for having lost so much weight - that's a lot of hard work and you do deserve a big BRAVO for it! Good luck with your continuing efforts and keep pluggin' away - congratulations.
