Needing tips or advice please :)

Hi I am new to this and My Husband and I are trying to eat healthier and workout but one big issue we have is what to buy when we go do groceries. Like what healthy foods should we look for? Or what kind of foods are good in carbs or calories?? We have been cutting out fried foods to broiling the meats and making mashed potatos or white rice...but we don't think they're that healthy. Also, my husband is not to fond of salads, fruits or veggies he wants to start trying to eat them but we don't know any good ways to start i myself love the salads, fruits and veggies! But we want to do this together and any tips or advice would be very helpful! :)

Are you eating healthy to lose weight or eating healthy because you want to?

Losing weight is just about eating all kinds of food but the key is in moderation. There are no good or bad foods, just that some are nutritionally better for you.

When it comes to losing weight its all fuel for your body, doesn't matter if you have a 200 cals of avocardos or mars bar. It's still 200.

As long as you stick to your deficits you'll be losing weight. Pick things you want to eat, don't get sucked into eating only certain foods or going cold turkey on "bad" food :)

Congratulations on your decision to eat healthy!

As phil said the key is moderation. In my case I found the foods I had to be more careful were bread, cheese, honey, jams, and cooking oil. I almost completely cut chips, pastries and cakes, but I do have them sometimes.

I think the decision to broil instead of fry is great. There are plenty of other ways to get the fats you need, plus overheating oil can have some unhealthy effects. That said, if you occasionally feel like having something fried, I say make it fit your goals and go for it.

As for white rice and mashed potatoes, there is nothing inherently wrong with carbs but there are ways they can be healthier. My advice would be to keep the skin in the potatoes and try to go for whole rice instead of white. You could also try adding legumes. They are an excellent source of non animal protein.

For incorporating veggies in your diet, the key is keep it fun, experiment and try new things. The great thing about veggies is the great variety available. Just by using different lettuce types you could add a lot of flavors and textures to a salad for instance.
