3 weeks to train for a 5k run

Hello all,
I have agreed to be part of a team for the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon on March 3rd (Sprint Distance) with my husband doing the 50k bike ride and our friend doing the 750m swim.
That leaves me to do the 5k run and although I like to think that I am relatively fit I have not done any kind of running in around 6 years and am finding it hard.
I realise i'm not going to break any records but the other two are really good at what they do and I want to do the best I can too. Does anyone have any handy training tips that might help?
Thanks in advance,
MS

I would suggest working in splits and not just trying to run the whole time straight. Depends on your starting level, but I find i definitely get a faster time if I run for 8 minutes and walk for two, or something similar. My first 5K was run 2 walk 2, and that was without training. That little bit of recovery time does a world of good. If you are more comfortable with running you can do negative splits as well where you run at an easy pace for a while and then pick up the speed for theshorter interval as a speed drill.
Main advice would be not to push yourself too much too fast. If you hurt yourself the training will be no good to you come race day. 5K are usually walk/run though i find and everybody is very happy and supportive of all speeds.0
