general work out question

I have this stupid cold and I'm not contagious. I generally feel good but still have congestion so I really can't do any cardio. I do belong to a gym but haven't been in almost two weeks. I don't want to stall in my weight loss.
question
Is there a good website with basic exercises for beginners? I have never worked with a personal trainer and have limited knowledge of working out. Yes, I could google it, but would rather use a site(s) that others have had success with.
Thanks.

If you're eating at a deficit, your weight loss isn't going to stall due to a couple missed days of exercise while you rest to get better.0

A head cold is not a good excuse to skip your workout, especially if you feel good other than the congestion. Do your usual routine, you will feel better afterwards.0

you can go on youtube and search for whatever you feel like doing, like "cardio for beginners", "yoga", "bodyweight workouts". I used to do that before I bought piles of Jillian Michaels DVDs.
Also, if you're on pinterest, people pin a lot of home workouts onto the Health and Fitness section (including myself!) Feel free to check mine out.

If you are sneezing, coughing, or have any drainage, you are contagious.
Rule of thumb, if the symptoms are from the neck up, workout should be ok. If any symptoms are below the neck, rest until you feel better.
Go for a walk, but stay out of the gym until you are better. If your diet is healthy and below your TDEE, you will not gain weight. Your body needs rest to recover and heal.0 -
I agree with the person above. I also read a lot of articles online and i get these daily emails from Jillian Michaels. In the Jillian Michael's email that was actually a question. Here is the link for it.

This. I don't see why nasal congestion would prevent a cardio workout. Breathe through your mouth, problem solved.0 -

I just used "chest" to get to the page. You can select whatever muscle group and equipment you have to personalize it. In addition, they have full routines to get you started. Most of these exercises don't require a PT - just watch the video and emulate them. If you're not sure if you're doing the moves right? Either don't do them, or record yourself doing them and compare to the videos.0 -

Yep. I actually notice that my congestion improves with exercise. Head colds don't stop me from doing anything. Now, coughing is a different story.0 -
nerdfitness.com has some good workoout you can do at home. jefit.com has a huge library of exercises and workouts, including a section specifically for beginners looking to cut fat. I recommmend both.0

Exercise actually helps clear up my head cold symptoms. Getting in a brisk walk is an idea. I had to force no jogging when I had the flu...only because I had a really high fever for a solid week. If you have no fever and no chest symptoms, you should be good to go.0

Me too. I didn't get a cold last week - it was allergies. But I couldn't breathe through my nose if my life depended on it. Got on the treadmill and that exercise just opens me up completely. I don't see why being congested should hinder your ability to get to the gym unless you're still coughing along with it.0 -
Unfortunately, it's just a nasty cough at this point. No head cold. That's why I'm not doing cardio. Literally cannot breath.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm going to check out the videos. :happy:0 -
Looks like I'm staying out of the gym until the cough goes away.0
