Please Don't Shoot Me!!! Another TDEE question...

Ok, I'm jumping on the band wagon.

I want to make sure I'm going to do this correct though....

5'4"
153.6
44 years old
Moderately Active

This is what I came up with from calculators:
BMR 1418
TDEE 1940 Moderate Activity
TDEE less 20% would be around 1560
So, set my calories to 1560 and eat all of them to lose 1.5 to 2 pounds a week

Now, I can either A) eat exercise calories back or B) don't eat exercise calories back. Key here is to eat some or all back here and there, but I don't have to ALL the time.

Ok, am I getting this right? Like I said, please don't shoot! :flowerforyou:

I think...because your excercise is already factored in you don't eat them back .

    Good luck

^^ yep. if you eat them back and stay under TDEE that's maintenance. I think.

So go with your plan, but don't make a habit of eating them back

Correct. Exercise is already in your TDEE. You only eat back exercise calories if you do it the regular MFP way, it's set up for you to eat them back.

    There are two methods here:

    1. If you use the MFP system, you should eat back your exercise calories.
    2. If you are using TDEE minus [number]%, you should NOT eat back your exercise calories.

Under both systems, you need to set a weight loss goal that will not have you eating below your BMR. In MFP, you can readjust your weight loss goal in the setting. In TDEE minus %, you can decrease the size of the cut.

Edit: Maintenance is when you are eating at TDEE and not losing or gaining weight.

thanks! I think I get it now....
  • The only thing I would add is not to expect to lose 1.5- 2lb a week. You may do, but equally you may well not do. I tend to lose 0.5lb - 1lb a week, some weeks, but for me eating in this way is more about changing my body composition and lowering fat % and increasing lean % than the actual scales. A lot of people change and get all upset because it takes a while for their body to reset itself and begin to lose in a good, sustainable way decreasing in fat and increasing in lean tissue. Don't forget it can take 6-8 weeks for it to begin to happen, but stick with it - I feel full and healthy the whole time, I have tons of energy and my whole mentality to weight loss has changed - I need to lose weight, but I trust it'll come off and I get ridiculously excited about other things - like, although I've only officially lost 8lb in 6 weeks, my trousers fell down yesterday lol - seriously! Was hilarious and so pleased, they were too tight to wear for more than an hour or two at Christmas!
