Exercise in the AM - quicker heart rate?

When I exercise in the morning pre breakfast my heart rate gets in "the zone" so much quicker than when I exercise in the evening.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Probably due to low blood sugar as it's pre-breakfast.

As you've not eaten in a while, your glucose level is low which signals your adrenal glands to release epinephrine (adrenaline) which acts to release the stored glucose but the epinephrine will raise your heart rate as a result. (I'm sure you know all about the effects of adrenaline so I won't patronise you by explaining)

Research seems to indicate that if you work out in the morning (after breakfast) you would generally have a lower heart rate than later in the day.

Opinions vary wildly on the principle of pre & post breakfast workouts. I stick by the rule 'what works for you, works'.

    Hope that helps

its actually most likely because you are dehydrated from the nights sleep - lower volume will cause a higher heart rate

glucagon is released by the pancreas when you are in a fasted state to maintain steady state blood sugar not adrenaline

EDIT: that being said i think fasted morning workouts are fantastic, since you are lower on glycogen at that time your body is more likely to become fat burning. But whenever you can get to the gym is IMO the best time to workout

    thank you too ...

just seems a struggle to get my heart rate in the correct zone in the PM lately ... been having snack before will revert to not eating before exercise and hopefully heart rate quicker and more calories burned.
