NEED SOME BUDGET FOOD IDEAS!

Hi,

I'm nineteen and live alone. I'm stuck on a £15-20 food budget for every two weeks. Any ideas for food ideas will be much appreciated.

Thank you

How did you make those bold words? So cool. Eggs and wheat bread for your budget.

Quinoa is cheap. The version I make probably costs < $10 / week, but it make enough for the week or more!

Dried beans and brown rice (also lentils) are very cheap.

And tho some people call them carbs, if money is a factor, these staples are whole grains, very healthy, and quite low on the glycemic index

Tinned tomatoes. And stock up on dried herbs and spices that will make everything you cook much tastier.

Along with the other advice of bulk grains and beans, watch for meat on sale and buy it in large cuts or whole pieces. A whole chicken is cheaper than individual pieces and gives you more bang for the buck. You can separate the chicken yourself or cook it whole and use the meat through the week. You can also buy roasts and slice them down into steaks or chops.

  • When I was going through university I actually got a lot of my groceries from the dollarstore. A lot of them have rice, pasta, canned vegis, canned fruit and soups. Get your basics from there and use the leftover money for fresh fruit and meat.

Meal planning can really help stretch your budget.
