Any accountants out there?

Hello all,

I am an accountant working through busy season and it is kicking my butt! Just wondering how other accountants stay on course with their diet and fitness plans?

for that matter...anyone who works crazy hours, how do you manage??

Thanks!

  • Well....you already know I'm in accounting. But I figured I'd drop my hat in the ring here too. :D

And crazy hours? I thought our hours were normal?!

haha i love after busy season when I leave at 5:30 again. the first week of working only 8 hours feels like I am taking a half day!
  • Oh, I guess I should have answered your questions too....

I cook on Sundays to eat all week, divide everything up and then just grab and go.

Fitness I need to get back to, I stopped when I got sick in December and haven't gotten back to it :(

I am an internal auditor who just moved from external auditing so believe me, I know your pain!! At my accounting firm we called it AUDIT AS$ lol. All I can say is... just do your best, make the best choices you can and fight through some exercise otherwise you'll end up gaining... it sucks but it's the nature of our profession.

I'm an accountant...spent six years as an auditor with a big CPA firm...seemed like busy season was pretty much year around. I've never been a tax accountant so never had to worry about tax season. I'm no longer in public...sitting on the other side of the desk now as a CFO.

I put on about 40 Lbs when I was with the firm because I never found time to exercise and my diet was absolute ****.

Qualified accountant here just finished results announcements at work, I've managed to lose weight 2 January's in a row now:
Last year I paid a fortune to a meal delivery company to have 1200 calorie meals delivered to my door for the 2 months in Jan and Feb.

This year I wake up at 5:30 am to get to Bikram yoga at 6:30am and work at 9am - 8pm, eat ready meals at my desk and I'm in bed by 10pm. I preferred this year's weight loss plan.

We announced our results on Tuesday but I'm still going to yoga daily as it is a now part of my lifestyle.

    Good luck finding your magic!

I have left public accounting, but our audit team had a biggest loser competition during busy season (I was on one large public client only during busy season). Even the partners and senior managers were involved. Since we were in one room together for over 2 months for most of our meals we'd psych each other out on what we were eating etc. We also worked in a building with 19 floors, and later at night a few times a week, we'd take 20 minutes and run up and down the stairs.

That's really freaking cool. Awesome to have a support system in place when you're pretty much at work 24/7 during busy season. Everyone here is like, "OMG! BAGELS! DONUTS! VENDING MACHINES!"

Accountant here .. I bring in a big bowl of apples and bananas to the client/ office every week. If I eat athe deli for breakfast, it is hard boiled eggs and yogurt or scrambed eggs with avocado. Lunch is pretty easy.. The only thing i get out of vending machines is bottled water or coffee...

Just say no to bagels and muffins.

Stand up for ten minutes every hour or take a ten minute walk break. Wear a fitbit or nike fuel band, take the stairs as often as possible...

Just left large national firm last year, but am seasonal only right now. I am not doing well in the exercise department (as in I'm not exercising at all...but my goal is to add in some stairs and extra movement starting this week.. I can do that during a quick break)

What I am being successful at is food choices right now. I am roasting a big pan (it just fits on my oven rack) of veggies on Sunday for lunches. I let them cool and then put into serving bowls and set in the fridge. I use them for my lunches. I'm also meal planning to help with evening meals so that I'm not at a loss...when I don't plan, I way, way overeat or I eat wrong.

    Hi There!

I've worked as a tax preparer and bookkeeper and now I'm in school working towards my accounting designation. I cook on Sundays for the week and schedule in my workouts around my class schedule, childcare and homework. I do find that when things get busy my workouts are the first thing to go. I'm working on this because my workouts are the greatest stress reliever.

It actually took leaving the firm and getting a job in industry that was closer to home and had reasonable hours for me to lose 45 pounds three years ago..best decision I ever made...the same month I also moved out of my parents and in with my husband - so complete life change...

I'm now trying to lose baby weight before we try for #2...
