speed of weight loss

I am excited that I have 24 pounds since January 6th, let me start off with that. However this week I have lost 4 pounds already. I was 285 on Monday and today I was 281. This is awesome, but at the same time I am worried about skin elasticity and losing too quickly. I can't afford surgery to get rid of extra skin, so I need to lose weight in a healthy manner so I don't need surgery.

My starting weight was 305.8, so some rapid weight loss did not surprise me. Water weight, complete overhaul of foods I was eating changed me a lot in the first 2 weeks.

I am finding I am simply just not hungry. I am eating a lot more protein than I ever have before, and that likely has a lot to do with why I am never hungry. I make sure to eat every 2-3 hours (unless I forget, which is not often) But come 9pm at night I still have about 500-600 calories to eat and I have to force feed myself to get within 200 calories of my goal. (1480 calories a day)

Is 4 pounds in 2 days too much? Don't get me wrong, I love that I am losing weight, I just want to make sure I am doing it in a healthy manner. My diary is open if taking a look helps.

The weight loss too fast Nazis are going to get you... Tell them to bugger off! I've dropped 129 since July 1st and my blood pressure, glucose level, and all other health indicators are beautiful now and were awful when I started. Keep up the good work! Feel free to add me... Anyone can.

Skin elasticity has been an issue for me (I've lost about almost 60 pounds since Sept.). It's slowly catching up and I'm hopeful that it will rebound eventually, but I'd still rather have some loose skin than a huge gut. Either way I didn't / don't look good naked, but at least this way I look kinda good with a shirt on

I never go by daily weight loss, as that is mostly a reflection of how much water wand waste is in your system.

I took a look at your diary. It sounds like you might benefit from replacing the advocare with actual food, which would allow you mor control over your calories early in the day.

I would also suggest adding in healthy oils. I saw one instance of olive oil, but you could also use nuts or avocados so that you are getting one or two a day.

Since it seems you have a lot of weight to lose, it's not uncommon for you to lose weight quickly and it's not necessarily a terrible thing for a little while. However, there are a few other things to be mindful of I think. One is that eating too little for a long period of time can potentially be damaging to your metabolic health and function. Not only that, but it makes it easier to keep the weight off later if you are eating at a more reasonable calorie goal that can be maintained for a longer period of time. Also, as you lose a lot more weight, you may be risking losing lean muscle mass if you aren't consuming enough protein or calories. And finally, I'm honestly more concerned that at 1100-1300 calories per day, it is difficult to get adequate nutrition, especially when you are consuming mostly diet shakes. Balance is important. Vegetables are important. Micronutrients are important. Learning to cook your own balanced, healthy meals and getting a feel for portion sizes will give you the tools to maintain your weight loss later on, and help in getting adequate nutrition. You will likely not be drinking those diet/meal replacement shakes forever, so it's not really teaching you anything in this process.

I had the same fears as you, so I increased my calorie goal. i am quite certain I could eat like this the rest of my life and be happy.

You lose quicker if you are larger.

However, go by the full week to gauge your loss and not day to day. Your weight changes frequently so only go by the weight on your weigh in day.

A bit of warning, if you find you are consistantly losing too quickly increase how much you eat. Fast weight loss results in more loose skin as well as a loss of muscle. When you have too high of a deficit you will lose a large portion of muscle.. which in turns lowers your metabolism.

Another benefit to eating at a smaller deficit is that you have more room to move. As you lose weight you will have to lower your calories every so often. The higher you start with the easier it will be.
