The Pitfalls of "Serving Size"

Doesn't it just suck when you're eating some pre-made, frozen meal and the serving size is like 1/4 of a package? and a 1/4 of the package doesn't even fill your hand? Yeah, it does suck.

Just happened to me for my lunch. Now, I'm normally pretty good about actually making meals and not resorting to frozen, fast meals. However, I'm currently afflicted by the Valentine's Day blues, lol.

In any case, I ate half the package instead and put the food into my trusty FitnessPal calorie tracker...and I apparently just ate 680 calories at one meal. So now it's 3pm and I have about 300 calories left to last me the day. Oh goody. So much for pigging out on chocolates and crying later, haha~

Not asking a question in this thread but just venting a bit. Feel free to vent too! :) In better news, I finally made it below 150lbs after almost hitting 160lbs a month ago. Woo~

Congrats on the below 150 lbs! And thanks for the reminder on "serving size" sometimes... I get a little lax sometimes and record after I eat something - to get a big surprise after reading the label - and I am on maintenance!!

  • I never noticed how skewed my servings were until I started measuring/weighing my food. Yep, it was an eye opener.:noway:

I was eating lunch at work one day and a co worker had a whole thin crust pizza for lunch. She commented on how great it was that she could eat the whole thing for some ridiculously low amount of calories because of the thin crust. Didn't sound right so I go the box. The calories were for one serving which was 1/6 of the pizza. She ate the whole thing and thought it was a serving!
