I have been losing weight steadily for a little while, officially getting back on track around my birthday (Jan. 30th) and doing okay. I read "In Defense of Food" and have been trying to eat relatively "clean" although I am not strictly sticking to it.. I do have an occasional craving day.
My friend and I have also been going to the gym for the last week and a half (4 times so far but I have been trying to work out every day) and we work out hard.
The typical workout looks like:
40 mins Elliptical
1hr or so lifting various weights
10 mins rowing machine.
I understand that this takes time. I don't mind waiting and I know it is worth it... but I haven't ever had this problem before.
See I had been losing very steadily up until I started my rigorous routine and I haven't really lost anything since.
Yes I know that measurements are more accurate.. and I will take them. But I didn't realize how tempting it was to mess with what I am doing! My immediate response is to want to eat less. It's not like I was eating 1200 calories, despite being tempted to. I am a really heavy woman. 270 pounds (which is where I was at when I first started back up!!!) so I don't feel like I should be stalling out this fat. Am I eating too much?
The facts:
I weigh and measure everything, so as to get the most accurate diary possible
I didn't eat the best stuff this week but I always made sure to balance it out and stay under calories!
I always underestimate the calories that MFP says I burn.. just in case.
My diary is public
I feel like I should really be dropping the weight!

i am new to the keeping on working out daily thing but I know I have always heard it is harder to loose weight if your older
Or let me say it this way, the older you are the harder it is to loose weight. Not saying your old.
Also I have heard its harder to take off just a few pounds if your not way over weight. I have been in the 220-235 range for last few years, I got a WII board few months ago and have taken off around 10 pounds and keep it off other day was at 221. I am hoping to get to maybe 200 but im sure it take some time, I have heard only weigh yourself once a week also... I am very bad weight everyday hoping for change and very upset when i go up a number or two
best of luck0 -
Im a lifter and nearing end of week five and not seen alot of movement on the scale but Im shrinking measurement wise. When I lost weight two years ago I noticed a huge change in week 8. I hear this is common for alot between week 8-120

So.. what's the best stuff you eat? What is your sodium intake like? Do you drink lots of water? Zig zag your calories? Are your approaching TOM?
Personally, I would avoid the eliptical .. in the past, I have never lost an incredible amount of weight using that machine. Secondly, I did take the time to look at your diary.. personally I think you need more protein if you are lifting.. there are days where your protein is low. I am 171 lbs atm and I try to get in ATLEAST 110g a day.
Sometimes your body is bored of what you are doing.. if you lift weights, you usually gain muscle but lose a crazy amount of inches.
I don't know what else to suggest cause you are doing really well, just keep at it. I know it's hard to accept that cause I hear it all the time but you just gotta keep going.. I had a plateau three weeks into my current regime, turned out an unexpected TOM and all the muscle gains/water retention from new muscle created that problem.
Good luck.
P.S. Look into 30 Day Shred, EXCELLENT workout and its only 20 minutes a day.0 -
Okay. Looking at your diary, what have you set your calories set at without exercise (I didn't feel like doing the math, sorry)? It does seem a little on the higher side--more like what you would have if you set up to lose 1/2-1 pound a week so I was curious as to what you put your as your goal.
Take measurements and go off that rather than the scale. It's hard, but you have to be patient. If you have only been following this for a week and a half, it's really too soon to see anything happen.0 -
Long answer:
I would say that a week and a half is way too short a time frame to be making changes. Give it at least a month or two I reckon. From the reading I've done lately (and based my own personal experience) it appears quite possible that someone in your situation (new to lifting, with quite a bit of weight to lose, calorie deficit) could be gaining some muscle while losing some fat, so you might not see the scales change for a while. As your body fat decreases, though, you'll eventually stop gaining muscle and further fat decreases will be seen on the scales. Keep at it!
Short answer:
Scales are lying *kitten*. Enjoy getting fitter and healthier, the numbers will come. :-)0 -
Wait a month! Honestly scales hardly mean anything.....especially if you have a cheap *kitten* 10 dollar one like me. Also - muscles weigh more than fat so if you're getting slimmer measurement wise then that's your best bet. You could weight 160 and be a size 6...it's all muscle.0

Hi! How did you decide how many calories you should be consuming? Did you use MFP to help? Your base calories do seem high but if that is what MFP says then they should be right. What I did was this: I set my activity level at sedentary, I chose how many pounds I wanted to try to lose a week. I stick to those calories, but if I do exercise I always eat most of them back. MFP has already worked a deficit in, so you don't need to have more of a deficit. It seems strange at first but I believe ( and so do many others) that this is the best way to lose weight. It may take a little longer but will be easier to sustain in the long run. I hope I have been of some help. Also, as others have said, it is a little early to worry , but it is always good to make sure your settings are right anyway. Friend me if you like, and would love to give support if you need it.0

Put away the scale. It is a liar. Also read this http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12. Explains everything you need to know.
Keep at it, you are doing great.0 -
When you start a new workout programme your muscles often pull in water so you don't see the scale move. up your water and eat potassium rich foods to help. You will likely suddenly drop 4-5lbs overnight. i am currently 265 started at 301 and when all averaged out i have lost just under 2lb per week but I have had a few 0 loss weeks followed by a whoosh effect.
Regarding your exercise maybe try to get more focused as the amount of time you are putting in may not be sustainable long term. I do HIIT intervals on the eliptical and only spend 10 minutes or so and then around 45 minutes lifting. If you want to keep your heart rate up during weights consider circuit training. Feel free to friend me for support.0
