I am scheduled for a laparoscopy to remove an ovarian cyst/mass next week(the whole ovary and tube). I have noticed weight gain in the past 6 months...I am working on losing weight, as of now...8 pounds. For those of you that had the surgery to remove, did you lose weight. I have heard that you do and then some say you don't.. I think alot has to do with hormones.

I am going through roughly the same thing. I was given the option of surgery or hormone therapy and bed rest. ( I am already on Mirena, and my doc added Cryselle.. so.) I chose bed rest. BUT. I CAN tell you I have not been able to lose a single pound in the last three months.. Suffered bloating to no avail ( I am 90% gluten free) and have suffered immune compromise due to my body trying to fight the garbage fluid from bursts.
I am REALLY REALLY looking forward to seeing progress after I get healed up. Good luck with your surgery! I would love to know how you progress also.

...I have dealt with pain and major bloating since August...pain everyday. I have tried not having surgery but it is the only option for me because mine will not go away... was almost 8cm in Dec. and I am sure it has grown. Not wanting surgery but want relief!!! If my other ovary looks ok, he will leave it so I can have hormones. I will put my progress on here when my surgery is over. I guess due to my age hormone therapy wasn't even an option nor was just taking off the cyst(they usually come back). I am sorry you are so bloated...I know how you feel.

I didn't notice any weight loss after I had mine removed back in 2007. Before I'd been diagnosed I'd lost 12 pounds and was doing great with exercising and being healthier. Then the pain of the cysts (caused from endometriosis) completely derailed me. I was better after the surgery, but didn't lose any weight at that point, and stopped exercising and took so much time to get back to it.. Spent years gradually getting heavier, until last year when I showed up here determined to change things. I'm down 35 from my starting weight, so it's going well. Good luck to you - I hope that it helps you tremendously. It definitely helped me in regard to the pain.

Hi! I suffered from several ovarian cysts for many years and had surgery twice to remove them. I never lost weight as a result of the surgeries. I even ended up ultimately having a total hysterectomy years later and didn't lose weight from that either. It may be harder to lose because of the pain. I know I sure didn't feel like working out or doing anything where I was active because of how lousy I felt! I do think you will feel tons better after the surgery and your energy level and mood should increase. Get it over with so you can get back to a normal and pain-free life. Best of luck to you!!! <3

Melissa...thanks. This is my first "adult" surgery so alittle nervous. I am going in as a lap but if no cancer is found and all looks good... he will only take the left ovary and tube. I am so ready to get it out...it's miserable. It is very hard to exercise...I try but I can't give it my all.
  • Hi,
I had a question and I don't know if anyone can help me. Last year In Jan (2013) I thought maybe I had an ovarian cyst I read up on them and it seemed they went away on there own so I started taking female herbal pills to help it , by mid feb I was very bloated and thought it was due to my period when I got my period it was very light like spotting my clothes barely fit at this point everything I read said a doc would just wait 3 months to do anything and without insurance I didn't want to waste money so I put it off until May when I went to the doc I was shocked to see my weight went from 110 to 135 , the doc said lets wait so I played the waiting game again .In July I went to another doc who wanted to play the waiting game as well , In Sept I'd had enough of waiting I hadn't had a normal period in nine months and my weight was now 145 . I was so bloated I looked pregnant and I was never hungry due to bloat some days I wouldn't eat at all. In Sept my cyst burst , my swelling went down somewhat and my weight dropped to 130 however I jumped back up to 140 I've been working out and the lowest my weight has gone to is 135 , I want my body back and I don't know why I can't lose weight I'm vegan so my diet is very low fat and I'm working out for 90 min a day . If someone can help me I'd appreciate it .
