I am wondering what are the alternatives to lifting heavy?

I got a gym membership this month and have started lifting weights, but it is really cutting into my budget so I am not going to be able to buy another month's membership. I have an elliptical at home for cardio, but I need an alternative to heavy lifting.

Bodyweight. Push-ups with all sorts of variations. Pull-ups. Dips. Squats. Lunges. Planks.

Yes I love this. I do this when I'm travelling for work.

I also get a lot of bodyweight workout ideas from Pinterest. I've pinned my favorites. Feel free to check them out.

I have a question along these lines.I've read on the threads,to build muscle I should be using heavy weights. Will lower weights and doubling reps produce the same results? I'm not in a position to buy any more weights right now.

In a word, No. But if you are an absolute complete newby at lifting, about anything will stimulate muscle growth and make you stronger. Lighter weights and very high reps can actually be catabolic to your muscles so you may want to avoid this particular routine if you are trying to build muscle.

I've using them for about a month.Usually just ten pounds or so.But I'm loving the results so much I've been thinking of starting the heavier ones.I've been doing cardio, with weights on a "if i feel like it" basis, for about three years and am thrilled with how quickly I can see results all over by making them a more regular part of my routine.
