What do you eat for lunch in a restaurant?

Yesterday we went out for lunch. I really had a hard time trying to figure what there was on my diet.
I ended up having a steak sandwich (it had 1 slice of garlic bread), switched the fries for salad and because they had no lo-cal dressing used the juice of 1 lemon wedge on it. I asked the waitress how big the steak was, since the menu didn't say, and she said it was 6oz. A lot of restaurants don't have a diet plate. Everything is either fried or deep fried. I was way over on my proteins yesterday.
Any suggestions?

You might consider changing restaurants that don't specialize in fried or deep fried specialties. Fish is a good alternative if you can have them grill or bake it without a lot of butter. Steamed vegetables and even a potato without the sour cream and butter is really quite nice to eat.
I choose my restaurants based on their menu selection which I know will accomodate my eating style and not necessarily that they have a weight watchers menu item. If all else fails a salad with soup is a good back up as long as you keep your portions in check.
Hope this helps. Bob0 -
Thanks Bob...
Unfortunately, because we're rural we don't have a lot of choices in restaurants (2 here....chinese, canadian plus a pizza take-out). Yesterday we went for a drive to the USA to a small town across the border to pick up fat free & low sodium items that we can't get here in canada.
I guess I felt because it was lunch and I would be having my big meal with meat, veggies & salad for dinner that night, I wanted something filling but not fattening. The choices on the menu were burgers, sandwiches, and salads. I find that eating just salad I get hungry so quickly after. The only fish choice on the menu was breaded fish on a bun, which isn't all that healthy. I guess I just have to stay away from restaurant food if I want to lose weight. I'm going to miss my chinese food!!! :frown:0 -
as for the chinese? go for no noodle and all veggie and no fried.....
the soups are awesome too.
I know some of the sauces have sugar added, but it's better then going with out.
reward yourself with the chinese veggie stir fryes instead at least once a month....0 -
I have a grilled chicken salad with the dressing on the side.
I also bring my own dressing to restaurants. I put the 10 calorie spray in my purse so I can control and count my calories efficiently.0
