im the same i never eat of my 1200 calories and scared of going near anythin with fat it, this has only been for the last 3 weeks but i cant even force myself to eat it people have been telling my fat is too low on most days but i thought that was what makes u loose weight by not eating fat ! :S

This is a major diet myth! Fat doesn't make you fat, being at a calorie surplus does that. The body needs fat for many functions (vitamin absorption for instance) and if you don't get enough you may suffer health consequences like dry skin, hair loss, hormone imbalance, etc. Also, fat can help you stay full longer.

In fact, it's a wonderful thing to bulk up your calorie intake by adding calorie dense foods to your diet like nuts, seeds, healthy oils (olive, canola) and avocados. Eat a well balanced diet at a calorie deficit instead of trying to deprive yourself of a much needed nutrient.

You're very inconsistent when it comes to logging your food, especially on the weekends. Could it be that your un-doing all of the good work you've done throughout the week? Also, today's breakfast, a western omelet, seems like the calorie count for that item is extremely low, you have to watch because some of the items in the MFP database are incorrect. Good luck in your journey.

Yeah it looks like you aren't eating enough calories, or protein.

Today it looks like you a HALF of egg for breakfast?

An eating disorder isn't about what you are eating, it's why you are eating it. If you are eating like this because you have feelings of guilt or think that if you do eat more you'll be "fat", that's a disordered way of thinking. If I said to you that you should be eating no less than 1800 calories a day, does that "scare" you? If you are eating this low because eating more "scares" you, you may be on the brink of disordered eating.

No one on here are professionals, we have no clue what is "right" on what to eat, how much to work out, etc. But if my doctor told me she was concerned about why I was eating how I was eating, I'd look into it. I'd follow through and see if the doctor may be correct.

You are not getting an eating disorder.Just dont get paranoid. You have time. You don't have to hurry.Give some time.First 3 weeks, body needs to adjust to the diet and exercise regime.Once done, you will definetly lose weight. You need to eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables.Eat healthy nuts, fish and lean meat...Exercise slowly. You will be fine...

I'm completely with the others here - you aren't losing weight because you aren't eating enough! The other thing, your age - you're 40? I'm 43 - I have found it really really hard to lose weight the 'normal' way these last few years - it does seem to slow down, but I can guarantee you that if you stick to this crazy low, non-balanced, diet you won't lose weight. I've learnt more in the last few weeks of being here than I'd learnt in years - I've moved to the road map (you've been given the link) and it is fantastic - you're a bit shorter than me, but you need first to work out your BMR - the absolute minimum you need to survive if you're unconcious - and make sure you always eat that - minimum - it'll be around 1400-1500 cals. Then you need to work out your TDEE - the amount of energy you use on a daily basis (mine is around 2100 cal) - anything you get under that will result in a loss - mine is set to TDEE minus 20% - which is 1761 cal - I don't always eat all of that, but I try. I'm losing every single week, my body is changing shape - and I feel GOOD! I'm working out, doing resistance work and cardio - that's how you lose weight :-) Don't starve yourself. I don't think for a second you have an eating disorder - I just think you've got confused about how to lose and are getting desperate - no need!

Stop listening to the fear mongering "facts" out there by the low fat crazed world.

Dietary fat does not make you fat. Dietary fat does not equal body fat.

You only gain fat when you eat above your maitaince calories. Dietary fat is good for you and your body needs the healthy fats... so eat them.

To the OP, why are you eating so little? You are no where near the intake you should be. Figure out your BMR and TDEE. Ensure you NET at least your BMR. You are eating far too little and therefore not getting in the nutrients your body needs and you are trying to sustain too large of a deficit which will cause you to lose muscle. Less muscle equals a slower metabolism. Seriously, EAT!

Eat the full 1200 calories each day, maybe up the protein a little. If you don't eat enough, your metabolism won't work to help you lose weight.

focus more of your exercise on strength building, so you have more muscle. then, when you are sitting, your metabolism will still be burning that body fat.

Most of all, don't stress! We are not on the biggest loser, where you have to lose 10 lbs a week or something totally silly. Relax, eat well, exercise well, and live life.

IMO you are definitely not eating enough. You ate 900 calories one day. If that is normal for you, I can definitely see where your doctor would be concerned.

^This, and it would be called an eating disorder. If you are eating only 900 calories a day, that's not sufficient enough for your body to use. It's going to cause you to stall and not lose any more weight, and I have noticed this personally not just from what everyone says. I've also eaten at 1200 calories and stalled before, upped my calories and started losing again. Check out your BMR and stay above your BMR but Below your TDEE. (BMR and TDEE calculators can be found on a google search) You've only been on here for a week, but if you continue to eat low calories, it will also mess with your metabolism and slow it down, making it even harder to lose weight. Take a deep breath, you can do it :)

Being on a low calories diet for a week is NOT an eating disorder. An eating disorder is a mental illness. That being said, eating a very low calorie diet and obsessing over losing weight can lead to disordered thinking and disordered behaviour. Your doctor is right to be concerned.

Do what the above poster advised, work out your TDEE, and BMR, you can use this site, http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/bmr/ and eat a little below. 10-20% deficit will result in loss. Remember that weight doesnt go on overnight, and it wont come off like that either, regardless of how much you limit your calories. Eating a sensible, nutritious diet, and doing some exercise is the best way to go.

Why do you only grab a tbsp or two of food?

You really need to start eating more... a lot more. Not eating enough is your problem.

That sounds problematic. There is no way you are getting full nutrition from 1 tbsp of eggs and 1 tbsp of other foods. You need to increase your portions to be reasonable sizes.

I and the majority of the responders disagree with this because restricting calories as she is doing in her diary is clear that if she does not have an eating disorder; she is on the edge of having one.

Thanks for the advise everyone- I only eat a tablespoon of different foods as I don't feel hungry,
and feel freaked out if there is to much food in front of me- I know its wrong ,and not feeling hungry makes it seem like its okay

I suffer from depression so its pretty easy for me to not eat when I feel depressed-
moving forward I will try to increase my calories, and try to snack a bit

Thank you again for all your kind words

I'm no expert but that sounds like an eating disorder.

According to the Scooby BMR/TDEE calculator, you should be eating around 1500 calories to lose 20%. You need to eat more, and eat better.

Agreed. You do not have a healthy relationship with food and need to discuss this more with your doctor. Ask for a referral to a disorder specialist.
