My daughter has absolutely no problem at all. She grows stunningly, she self-regulate splendidly and she is eating healthy, so my question is out of curiosity only.

What is, on average, the calories needed by a 4 years old -very very active :) ?

I am guessing there is no magic number. Kids are different sizes and grow at different rates. The calories necessary during a growth spurt may be huge, then wane for a while. So long as kids aren't offered mostly crap food, kids tend to be great about self regulation: eating when hungry and stopping when full. The problem is once the adults introduce sweet and salty junk to the mix they get all screwed up and seem to have issues regulating intake.
