Hi everyone. I am new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I'm 51 years old and the bottom line is I need to lose 50 lbs to get to where I want to be. I'm only 5'2".Weight was not a huge issue when I was young woman...99-120 lbs max. Funny my mother always got on me to eat more and gain weight.

Gained a lot of weight when I was pregnant with my son. I had insulin dependent gestational diabetes and even though I followed a diabetic diet I still ended up gaining 50 lbs! I only got down to 137 afterwards which was upsetting for sure but not a crisis for me.

Fast forward to my mid 40s. I had got down to 118 lbs at that point and my docs told me to stay at that weight, which I did until I was put on a medication which had the side effect of weight gain, however they do not know the mechanism which causes people to gain weight on this med. Within 6 weeks I had gained 40 lbs!!!! My doctor's jaw dropped at my next visit with her. She even uses me (without disclosing my identity of course) as an example to her other patients on what this med can do. Unfortunately I need to be on this med.

So I carried all this weight on my arthritic and busted up knees for the last 5-6 years and I was miserable about it but honestly wasn't doing much to lose it. My wake up call came about 3 1/2 weeks ago when I noticed a machine called HiGi at my local pharmacy which measures BP, weight and calculates your BMI. I hopped on and after sitting on this machine and letting it calculate everything, the screen came back with my results. I knew I was overweight but what I found out is that I was labeled as obese. Wow...not acceptable at all. So I finally got serious and I found this site and have been religiously counting every calorie and have even started to exercise, which to be honest, I HATE. But I am doing it now. I've only lost 4 lbs though. I hjave lost 2 inches off my waist and 2" off my hips though, which is a start.

So that's my story. Boy do I need motivation though. The calorie counting is not bad. I have never been a big eater and can easily stay at 1200 calories. It's the cardio and the strength training which I just can't get in to. I know that's important and I need motivation!!!

Nice to be here!
