My New Revelation

I have a lot of weight to lose. I have tried many different diets over the years and always quit after a few weeks because I don't lose weight fast enough. Everyone thinks that people who are significantly overweight should be dropping a lot of weight fast. This is partially perpetuated by The Biggest Loser tv show.

In the past 6 weeks I've lost 10 pounds. Honestly, that's disappointing for me because I have so much to lose. What I realized today is that just because you reduce your calorie intake from 4000 calories to 2000 calories, that doesn't mean you are going to lose weight, it just means you are going to stop GAINING weight. In order to lose weight, I need to have a greater calorie deficit or move more. Every time I would cut my calories and expect a huge weight reduction. I get it now.

I don't know why I never thought about it this way before. It's not rocket science. Hopefully, my new found wisdom can help me stay on track.

Im feeling the, I'm not losing it fast enough, thing today. So I get it when you have that ahah moment and realize there are reasons why its not going down as fast as you would like.

I am also at that point today. I have 100 or so to lose. But today I discovered that if you lift weights before you do cardio, you burn fat so much faster. Guess what I'm going to be doing from now on!
  • You know what? I've lost 8 lbs in 6 weeks and I am thanking myself for at least starting. I feel better, stronger and have TONS more energy. I have never felt this way in the past with losing weight, but I attribute that to lifting weights. Holy COW does that give me a huge boost!

Keep going girl!! You will thank yourself in 6 months and a year and in ten years if you just keep chipping away at it every day.

What else do you have to lose?

Make sure the calories you do eat count. What I mean by that is quality foods. I found out that eating real foods is much more satisfying than diet processed foods. You can eat a lot more of the them to for the same calories you get in just one processed or fast food.

I love this sentence..."doesn't mean you are going to lose weight, it just means you are going to stop GAINING weight. In order to lose weight, I need to have a greater calorie deficit or move more"
I think that is my problem too, I have been exercising more this time than in the past, still slow, but it is coming off.
    Thanks for the insight!

Studies show that those who lose gradually keep it off longer. Losing slowly is good. Congrats!

This is the problem with shows like the "Biggest Loser". They make people feel that they can lose upwards of 50-70 pounds in 7 weeks. AH, no, not real life. 2 pounds a week is REALLY good. 1 pound a week is GOOD. Anything is progress and you are better than you were a month ago.

Its all about staying committed. There will be weeks you don't lose anything and weeks your lose double your goal. Its just about pushing through the bad weeks and staying committed! So many times i tried for two weeks and gave up. If you just give yourself a chance you will see great results! The way I see it, Time is going to pass by anyways, so why stress how long it takes.

Good way to look at it! Stay focused on the long term. Everyone wants results fast (including me) but the time is going to pass regardless. Each day that you eat healthy (or healthier than you have in the past) and you exercise, you are one day closer to your goal regardless of what the scale may show short term.

    Good luck!

whats the rush ! Enjoy the journey and when you reach your goal weight you will know how to maintain it for life.

I never thought I would be on the yo-yo circuit of weight loss and gain but I have been on the carousel from the age of 17 and I am now almost 49 so take your time, it'll be worth it.
