How do you eat these? Like, they taste just fine, how do you physically chew the dang things?

Or were these supposed to be an edible garnish like kale that was never meant to compose much of a meal?

Steam them or briefly boil in heavily salted water. Remove, drain, rinse, and chow down. They are a delicious snack.

I've got some steam bagged ones, but it takes like a minute per pod to chew one.

    I don't eat the pods.

ETA: I learned how to eat edamae from my Japanese friend. She showed me how you pop the pod open and eat just the seeds.

You don't eat the pod - well at least I dont...just the inside bean. Very good snack. I buy the pre-packaged ones - steam in the micro, sprinkle with a little salt and SUCK the beans right outta there....nom,nom...

you dont eat the shell. You pop them out with your teeth. I like mine with kosher or sea salt

Yeah just squeeze the pod from one end and the beans come out the other end. I love to sprinkle some garlic salt on the pods when they're done steaming. Yummm

Not necessarily. I actually prefer the pods because they're more fun to eat. They also take longer to eat, so I can't pig out as quickly as the shelled beans. And edamame calories add up quickly. They're good for you, but very calorie dense.

    I avoid them completely. I don't need the phyto-estrogens.
