Help at the Gym

I'm 32 and have put a few pounds or three on.

I like having a good sweat out at the gym but according to the Polar HRM I have it says my fat burning zone is around the 115 bpm but I don't feel like i'm working out hard enough at this level.

Another thing is I've got about 20 months to lose about 3 stone (this is a bit tough with my work I don't get to go to the gym on a regular basis) so I need to get in a good routine. Would be grateful for any ideas of any Gym Experts on the best way to go about this... do I go all out on cardio or I've heard weight training can be good for you. The only thing that puts me off about weight training is that I have quite big arms and don't want to bulk up (I'm 5 ft 3" and 180lbs).

Any help at all would be appreciated. Thank you :blushing:

    1) 115 seems awfully low for a 32 year old. You should be working between 132-160.
    2) If you want to get in shape, then the excuse of "a bit tough with my work" needs to go away. Period. You need to commit to work out at least 2 or 3 times a week.
    3) 42 pounds in 20 months will never happen. It's too easy a goal to achieve in that time, and therefore it will be too easy to slack off and let things slide. Set yourself a more ambitious goal and work hard to reach it.
    4) Lift weights. Quit worrying about bulking up. It's not going to happen anytime soon.
