On the verge of an eating disorder ....

From the ages of 11-16 I was anorexic and fully recovered afterwards. I started losing weight April 2011 but I feel like I am on the verge of a breakdown. I was on 1800 cals a day cos I exercise so much and am
So active but have been slowly and steadily cutting it back and started skipping some meals now I only eat 1200ish and am scared I will keep dropping it. My mind is pretty much telling me I do not deserve food or to eat and be healthy.mind that my diary hasn't been filled in for awhile cos I was in hospital for a few months. What should I do....?

See if you can find a good therapist. There is something behind those thoughts and feelings -- they can help you get to the bottom of it and heal yourself.

Take some time and write about your feelings.
As someone who's been very sick, I know from experience that you will regret it if you mess up your health. All this is is simple impatience. Now, good things take time. Calm down and realize whatever it is making you want to lose weight so desperately. Are they worth sacrificing your happiness? Your health? Be calm and realize you will achieve your goal the healthy way & the right way. There is no such thing as a quick fix. Plan healthy meals and try to find some joy in shopping for, preparing and cooking those meals. Food is not your enemy. Talk to your mom about it, your dad or sister. Therapy isn't a bad decision either. Therapy is something almost any average person can use to deal with the stress of life.
Whatever causes you stress in life, can redirect into an eating disorder. Whatever it is you are stressed about just try and let it go and relax.

I know that it feels good to just "say things out loud" sometimes, but there is only minimal therapeutic value in it. You need to get to the bottom of this with a good team of therapists!

MFP is great for a lot of
Things and a lot of advice. But the issues you have been dealing with for so long and are
    So well documented on here...

Well they're bigger than any of us are
    Qualified to help with.
Stay in therapy. A lot of it.
    Get better soon.

DO NOT drop calories another time. Do the best you can each day and keep reminding yourself that you need the fuel for health...it is imperative to fuel the machine

You should go talk to your psychiatrist. If she's out of town again, you should find a back up one asap, or just another one that will be able to help you more. Perhaps look into some type of group therapy sessions too for support in the issues you are facing.

YES both responses above are good ones. Though MFP is a fitness site I don't believe it's a good place at all to ask others about ED's as you'll simply get their experience. If they are deep in one then that's not healthy for you, if they are recovering that could put them in a bad spot.

Though I will share that I believe many many many of us are currently in the midst of ED's of a varying nature, from binge eating, to over exercising, and the list goes on. Another reason to perhaps check in with someone NOT smack dab in the midst of one as was shared a professional. Someone in the field OFF of the Internet would be best able to help you, please see who you can find locally for the best advice.:flowerforyou:

    Wishing you well!!

EDIT: I'm glad to see 99% of the responses responsible in nature suggesting seeing a Professional that's trained in the field. I am curious though, as to your age now?

Fully recovering twice is tough, let alone doing it once. Speaking with recovered girls, it never really goes away - the voices dwell within waiting for an opportunity to resurface and gain control. I echo the majority sentiment in contacting your doctor immediately and explaining all the thoughts and fears that are swirling in your mind. Please do so while you still have the mental capacity to reason clearly.

I agree with the majority also... coming from a person who is training to be a doctor as I type this, your best option is to seek a professional for help. That helpline (while I have never called it before), may be perfect! Please take care of yourself!!

If your body needs food to survive, then it deserves food. And I haven't met a person yet who doesn't need food to survive. It isn't the enemy, it isn't a challenge to overcome, it is a necessity. What in your life is feeling out of control that you feel the need to restrict your food? Look at that fear or stress trigger, whatever it is, and think of ways you can work through it and reach a solution for it. That may take work, courage, and some life style changes, but we already you can do it. You beat an eating disorder, you can certainly find a way to resolve the underlying issue. :flowerforyou: bump your calories up to 1600, call the hotline up there, and take care.

    First,

Delete My Fitness Pal. While having a decent community and being good for dieters, it is not good for people with eating disorders. It can drive you crazy and the "you will weight ---- in 5 weeks" is very triggering. Stop tracking what you eat. Look at food as nourishment. Do some light exercise for your health. Focus on a hobby non fitness or food related.

    Hope you get better.

    This...
My wife is a recovered bulemic, and she can't log foods because she becomes obsessed with lowering calories and cutting weight. She just has a feel for how much to eat to maintain weight and shoots for that. Don't overthink it. Eating disorders are serious business and are usually more complex than just self esteem issues. Only a therapist can really help.
  • Hi sweet heart, i know exactly how you feel. I've suffered through anorexia myself and it does take over your life. Thank God your better than you were before, and you do deserve food. You have to deal with the stress, anxiety, emotional issues in your life because this isnt really about food its about those issues and trying to have control over something when everything else seems so out of control. You can do this, stay strong. If you were strong enough to cut so many calories before than you have to be strong enough now to be healthy. You are a beautiful, unique person with a purpose in life, dont let this take over you and ruin you. Your strong you can do this. When you feel the need to skip a meal, tell anorexia to **** off and you eat that meal because you are worth it, you do deserve it and you can beat this! Everything will be okay, stay healthy and God bless
