Giving credit where it's due!!

Woah, I'm actually posting in the 'success stories' thread?! What is this?
Have I met my goal? No.
Am I near my goal? No, not really.
Have I dropped loads and loads of weight? Aha, no.

Why am I here? I'm giving credit where it's due. I'm giving myself a pat on the back for losing 7 kilos and actually sticking to something for over a month now!
I often see posts from MFP members looking for help (heck, even I've done it. In fact, I did it last night).. However, a lot of these people are asking for help as though they're ashamed of themselves like they've accomplished nothing. A lot of these members have lost weight, whether it's 1 pound or 100, even if they haven't lose weight yet they're actively changing their lifestyle for the better.

As humans, as people looking to better ourselves, we need to make sure we celebrate our victories and how far we've come, instead of dwelling on how far we have left to go. I know personally that this is probably my biggest down fall, I get so caught up on little things that go wrong and easily find myself lying in bed late at night overwhelmed by the whole prospect of losing weight. I should be lying there thinking 'I kicked some *kitten* this month, I lost 7 kilos (14 pounds)' instead of feeling like a failure because I haven't lost anything in a week.

Along with this I really believe that some MFP members need to be a little more sensitive to how they pass on information to someone who may be unaware. Some times a bit of advice can really come across as ripping another member down and disregarding any hard work they're wanting to celebrate. I've experienced this before and let me tell you, it sucks and in some cases could be enough to put other members off posting or even using this site anymore. Be friendly, build each other up, we're all here for the same reason: to better ourselves!

I think that's about it for now. Go and celebrate your victories, or say something encouraging to another member!

Congrats on your 7 kilos!! Way to go!
  • Wow! That is so inspiring... and well written!! I haven't lost much weight but I think you're totally right - you should praise yourself on what you have lost, and not scold yourself on what you haven't. Congrats on your 7kg loss!!
