NET CALORIES please explain - simple terms

Basically all i'd like to know is: should my NET calories = my calorie GOAL? as long as i have exercised? or should it be in deficit?

e.g GOAL = 1360
EXCERCISE = 850
NET CALORIES = 510

So confused and wondering if this is the reason is why I have no real success.

    it should match your goal - your REMAINING should be zero.

    Eating back exercise calories is always a huge controversy on this site. I, personally, don't eat mine unless I'm extra hungry that day. I have had successful weight loss and toning. But I imagine someone will quote this and say how horrible it is not to eat them and how I'm ruining my body! If not eating them has not been a success for you then try eating them so that it says no calories remain. Everyone is different :)

    Net calories come from any food you can catch in a net. Fish is a major source of net calories. Chocolate has no net calories so long as it is melted.
  • thanks everyone. finally I get it. MFP has helped with so much and I initially lost 7lbs easily, but have plateaued ever since.I would like to lose another 10-15lbs and I have been struggling so much. I honestly thought I was doing all the right things and couldn't understand why the weight wasn't shifting, looks like I havent't been eating enough. Thanks so much for the advice
