Do kettlebells work the core?

If you look at my other threads and pictures you can see I'm skinny fat.
I was thinking if investing ing a 6kg kettlebell as I have heard good things about them, my questions are:
1. Will it help me build muscle?
2. Will it build muscle all over my body not just the arms?
3. Will it turn the small stomach fat I have into muscle/toned?
4. Have kettlebells helped you?
5. What routines/exercises do you recommend for the lower stomach?

Thanks!!

I adore kettlebells and I think they have made a huge difference all over my body.

I would recommend you buy one - but suggest you get at least an 8kg one. 6kg will be too light. They are not like normal weights, so you need them heavier to work properly.

I would check out some of the DVDs that are available - I really like IronCore. Its a good instructional all over workout for every bit of your body. On the other hand I hate Kettleworx as its very repetitive and I don;t like the style of how they do the exercises. There is also tons of stuff on you tube - check out DV8 fitness.

Ps - be kind to yourself. I saw your other thread and whilst I know what you mean about skinny fat, I think its a cruel term for yourself which doesn't credit you with all the hard work you have done to get where you are. You look amazing, and you just have a little bit more work to do to get exactly where you want to be. You'll do it.

If you use a heavy enough bell.

    2. Will it build muscle all over my body not just the arms?
    Yes

    3. Will it turn the small stomach fat I have into muscle/toned?
    Nope. Nothing will.

    4. Have kettlebells helped you?
    Yes,

    5. What routines/exercises do you recommend for the lower stomach?
Spot reduction is a myth. Lose weight to lose the belly.

I hate when you ask what exercises to do for this _____ area and some wise one has to put out there that you can't spot reduce. Thanks we already all know that.

I noticed more definition from doing kettlebells in my back, butt and legs personally.. google that one.

What are you lifting now (dumbells for e.g)? Go for something that weighs slightly more e.g. if you use 7 lb dumbells, go for a kettlebell that is 15lbs or 20 lbs.

I promise you 8kg will not be too heavy. Because you swing it then its not the same as lifting something like a dumbbell. I'm not saying it won't be hard work, but it should be a little hard or else you won't get the results. 8kg is standard start weight for a women.

Google hardstyle kettlebell and you find load of information. Technique is key, and some of the famous trainers who make dvds using kettlebells (such as Jillian Michaels) have terrible form, that you would find impossible to do with 8kg at first because she treats it as a dumbbell. Hope that makes sense.

    Good luck!

When you go to the store to buy your kettlebells, lift each one with both your hands and see. I think you need something that you can lift but that will challenge you. You won't want to spend money on a light kettlebell only to have to buy another one that will cost more in a month cause it was too easy.

Best of luck and let us know how you make out.
